Lexie and Nick got new bikes yesterday. I wasn't going to get one for Nick, but he was SOOOOO excited when he found one his size and hopped right on at the store.
The backyard is not very level and muddy in spots at the moment, so I parked the truck at the end of our driveway (blocking the street) and let the kids ride around on the flat pavement. They had a ball.
I wish that I was brave enough to take them down the street to the bike path that runs along the road. I don't have a bike (or a baby carrier thing for the back), so I don't think I'd be able to keep up. Plus, as soon as we get a good distance from the house, I'm sure that someone would desperately need to use the bathroom!
Ellie and Kate were begging for new bikes too, but they didn't get them. Ellie's is fine, it just squeaks. Kate's is great also, but it is too "foo-foo" and "pinky" for her as she says. I told her I would spray paint it if she wanted, but I'm not buying a new bike just for the color. :)

New Bikes
Kate
Here are a couple of pictures of Kate that I took today. She posed for me while she was taking a breather from riding her bike.

Not walking
Tori is still not walking.
The poor kid never gets put on the floor. She is either in the high chair, crib, walker, car seat, or being held.
I'm starting to think that she'll never walk.
Ellie was 7 1/2 months. The other kids were 8-9 months. She's 11 months old now and not a step.
She does stand and she can let go. She sometimes moves around her crib a bit. Other than that - nothing.
I am always afraid to put her down. Nick is constantly RIGHT in her face and in her business when she's on the floor. The poor girl doesn't get left to her own devices.
Also, we live in a split level - which means there is a set of wooden stairs going down out of our living room. Yes, I have a gate there, but the kids are constantly up and down and it makes me nervous.
So, I guess she will be crawling for a while longer...

Nick
I don't seem to get many pictures of Nick. When I take one, he usually ends up being a big blur. He doesn't sit still for very long, that's for sure! Here are a couple of ones that I took of him yesterday, while he was taking a breather.

Haircut
Did someone get a haircut??
Yes, but not a scheduled one.
Nick decided that he wanted to be a hairdresser and cut this chunk of hair off of Kate. She was obliviously playing on the computer until it happened.
Nick had been happily cutting pictures out of the magazine about 2 seconds before this happened. I suppose the scissors will have to be under lock and key...
At least it wasn't out of the front of her head. You honestly can't even tell that it's missing.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY April 13, 2009...
Outside my window...the snow is finally starting to melt. Each day, as it warms up outside, I can hear the drip, drip, dripping of snow melting off of my roof. It is music to my ears!
I am thinking...that I can't wait to see my green grassy yard again!!
I am thankful for...a wonderful Easter weekend.
From the learning rooms...the Celts in history and weather/natural disasters in science. We should be done with school in the next few weeks.
From the kitchen...Cereal for breakfast this morning. I cooked breakfast yesterday :)
I am wearing...PJs
I am creating...an online family tree to share with family and other researchers
I am going...to our regular set of classes this week - dance, gymnastics, art, Girl Scouts, AWANA
I am reading...family history documents : wills, probate records, Civil War pensions
I am hoping...that we can get a bunch of schoolwork done today. The sooner we get through it, the sooner summer break will be here!
I am hearing...my little ones eating their breakfast
Around the house...cleaning the bathrooms (not my favorite thing to do) and taking boxes of stuff to Goodwill
One of my favorite things...a good night's rest - and I got one! The kids came down off of their sugar highs and crashed last night. Tori usually wakes up once at 1 a.m., but she didn't last night. She slept from 8-8 and it was a beautiful thing :)
A few plans for the rest of the week:Girl Scout derby car races
Here is picture thought I am sharing...
This is what happens when it's almost 50 degrees out in Alaska. My darling daughter decides that it's swimsuit weather!!

Kids say the silliest things
The kids crack me up sometimes. The things that come out of their mouths....
Kate: "Aren't weddings kind of gross? You have to kiss on the lips for a long time! You suck each other's spit!"
___________________________________________
Ellie: "Do you have to get married when you're 18?"
Me: "No! You can't get married UNTIL you're 18 - at the very least. Whenever you find the right person. Some people never get married".
Ellie: "That's crummy. If they're an only child and they don't have any kids, then their family goes extinct!" (Yes, that's the genealogy gene that I've passed on to her!)
___________________________________________
Lexie (to Ellie): "If Mom makes milk, shouldn't she eat grass?" (Apparently she thinks that I'm like a cow!)
