We finally made it to Alaska, the Last Frontier :) What a trip! We spent 3 days on the ferry from Bellingham, WA to Haines, AK and then drove another 12 hours to our new home in North Pole.
The ferry ride was beautiful, but long - especially with 4 kids in a small cabin. I am thankful though that we had our own space and bathroom. I don't know what we would have done without it. There were actually people with tents out on the deck of the ferry - of course they were single :) The kids thought that the funnest thing about the ferry was that we got to take a car elevator in our truck to the second level where we parked. It was interesting getting out of the vehicle though with an inch to spare on the side. We were fairly comfortable in our cabin though and we had a window to look out. We hit rough waters a couple of times and most everyone was seasick - again I was thankful for having our own bathroom!!
The drive through the Yukon Territory and Alaska was just breathtaking. The mountains seemed to have no end and there were barely any people on the road. I'm so glad we didn't make the trip in the winter. We got to see our first moose in the road - it was much bigger than I had expected. I'm just glad we didn't hit it :)
We are now unpacking the last of the boxes and getting settled in. Poor Andy has been so busy hanging things and putting things together. I know he's ready for a break - but he won't get it yet. He's going to be installing new flooring in our living room later this month.
I'm including some pictures from our trip. If you look closely in the top picture, you can see the moose!
